The recent oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico has created some controversy. A oil drilling rig exploded tragical killing 11 crew members, and the well pipe broke 5000 feet below sea level.http://http://proquest.umi.com/pqdweb?index=3&did=2035448681&SrchMode=1&sid=4&Fmt=3&VInst=PROD&VType=PQD&RQT=309&VName=PQD&TS=1274189914&clientId=9417
Beyond Petroleum has had many problems in the past with oil rigs in the gulf of Mexico, in 2003 and in 2004 there were oil spills one also killing 11 people. It seems like BP has been slipping behind and letting accidents happen. the harm is not only to the lose of oil polluting the gulf, but also the families that lose loved ones in explosions like the one that just happened. One of the other issues that comes with a oil spill is the price of gas goes up everywhere. I do not believe this should happen. I would understand the price of gas going up a BP gas stations, but the oil industry will most likely take advantage of the problem. all the gas stations will price gouge because they see this as an excuse to raise the price of gas. this is unfair and corrupted to take advantage of a situation like this. I also believe it is illegal to price gouge, because in the past companies have done this when there was no call for the increase. Some companies have gotten in trouble for doing this in the past.
BP is also doing a horrible job at resolving this problem in the gulf. the first problem was the faulty electronics on the rig, why was it not tested and monitored to make sure it will not fail. also they should not be drilling that deep if it is unsafe and can create problems. many are starting to wonder if BP is even trying at there full potential to stop the oil leak? Every attempt is failed at stopping the problem, so why did they go in that deep water? Greed caused them to drill there, there was no back up plan if anything went wrong. BPs attempts to fix this is horrible, and on the surface the attempts to contain the leakage, i think is not thought out. BP is putting a diluent on the water to soak up and disperse the oil. So now we have dumped tons of oil in the water, but now we are dumping other chemicals in the water possibly just making things worse.
There was a oil spill in the Philippians and it was much larger then this, but the problem was resolved much faster. Also they collected 97% of the spilled oil, and could still be used. Over there they used jumbo tankers to skim the water and funnel it back in to another tanker. I don't know why this has not been tried in the gulf, it seems like it would work, and help more then we are doing now. BP should also have to check all of there rigs, and maintain them so this does not happen again.

Donkey Kong Flip.
This is a stand up jet ski doing a "donkey kong flip." i have a stand up jet ski very similar to this one, but i clearly cannot ride at this level. i have lived part time at Deep Creek Lake ever since i was three. When i was little i remember seeing people riding by our dock with these jet skies, and i always said to my mom and dad i wanted one. Sure enough now i have one, but it is also not just a toy. I drive it to work everyday when i am living up at Deep Creek. I can't complain about this, not many people get to take a very enjoyable drive to work, the only flaw is sometimes i fall off, and it can make a miserable day it it is not sunny out. One day i aspire to be able to do a flip like the one in the video, but for now just not falling is good enough for me.

Thesis topic
A small farm is beneficial to the animals and society verses the large factory farm, the dangers involve with factory farms are not worth the risk. The solution to this problem starts with slowing the factory farms down, or branching the company to down to the small farms. Also making the small farms more appealing to the public for creating new jobs.

Controversys
Should the drinking age be lowered to 18? i think it should because at 18 we are legal to do everything else. I also think it would lower the amount of problems associated with young drinkers because it would not be a big deal to get alcohol. if it is legal it wont seen like a big deal to get drunk, hopefully lowering the amount of stupid things that happen. I do not think it should be lowered because i want to drink at 18. I see a goal that would make everyone safer because it would not be special to have the alcohol.
Tazers have become a controversy. some think they are safe and a very helpful tool for law enforcement, but others think it is a torture device that does not help at all. i am for the use of these but the training needed to get a tazer is horrible. the officer needs 11 hours of training witch basically just covers the owners manual from the manufacture. government guide lines need to be stepped up to make this a practical safe tool for cops.
Animal farms have become large factory's, most times very cruel to the livestock just to save some money. this is a controversy because in ways we do like these factory's because they keep the price of food in the store cheap. But is hell for the animals most of them do not even see the light of day. they are packed like sardines in these factory's. the large factory also puts the small farms out of business that has much better living conditions, but cannot compete with the low prices of the factory.

Gun control is of importance to me because i do own guns and the gun violence has become a problem. I dont want to see guns go away but the violence is not good. The government needs to look over regulations and restructure the entire system. The main goal is to keep the second amendment, and to keep everyone safe.
